Jannik Sinner managed to break Djokovic’s serve to lead 5-3. The Italian then hit a forehand winner near the line to end Djokovic’s resistance for almost three and a half hours.

“That was a very difficult match,” said Sinner on the pitch as reported BBC Sport. “I started really well in two sets. I felt like he wasn’t very good and I kept pushing.”

“Then in the third set, I missed match point but you know this is tennis, and I was just trying to be ready for the next set.”

Victory over Djokovic sent Sinner to the final Australia Open 2024, which marked the first Grand Slam final of his career. The 22 year old tennis player will face the winner of the other semifinal match between Alexander Zverev vs Daniil Medvedev, which is scheduled for this afternoon.

For Novak Djokovic, this defeat also stopped his dominance at the Australian Open since 2019. Djokovic has been the champion in the last four editions in a row in four participations. Additionally, the defeat of Jannik Sinner also prevented Djokovic from winning the 25th Grand Slam title in his career.
