Paul Pogba is suspended from football for four years, writes Gazzetta dello Sport.
The punishment is in line with the claim of the prosecution for doping cases in Italian sport. Four years is the maximum ban for offenses of the type Pogba has committed.
– I believe that the decision is wrong. I am sad, shocked and devastated that everything I have built up in my career has been taken away from me, writes Pogba on Instagram.
The Frenchman warns that he will appeal the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport CAS.
Alsaker: – Sad
The Juventus player tested positive for doping, with elevated levels of testosterone, after a match against Udinese on August 20 last year.
After the result of the A test became known, Pogba asked for a new analysis of the doping test. The B sample also came out with the same result.
TV 2’s long-standing Premier League commentator Øyvind Alsaker thinks it’s a shame that it ended the way it did with Pogba.
– You are left with a sad feeling. Not everyone wants or is able to maximize their career, but he can blame himself, says Alsaker to Nettavisen.
– In today’s football, you have to be careful, and you can’t be a night owl. He is world champion in football, but that was six years ago, and things have “faded out” after that, says Alsaker.
– Special situation
Now he believes the doping verdict could be the end of the 30-year-old’s career.
– As far as he is concerned, it is a special situation considering his age. When the sentence is over, he will be of retirement age.
The Frenchman was brought to United as a teenager, but left the club in favor of Juventus in 2012.
After four good seasons in the Italian big club’s midfield, he was brought back to United in 2016.
The 30-year-old stayed at Old Trafford for six seasons, before re-signing for Juventus – a stay that has been marred by injury problems and failing form.
Pogba is world champion with France from the World Cup in 2018 and has won Serie A four times with Juventus.
With Manchester United, he won the Europa League and the League Cup in 2017, under José Mourinho’s management.
