Play-off place in danger: HCD Ladies suffer their fifth defeat in a row

There are no points to be won for the ladies of HC Davos in the away game on Sunday. The Davos women lost to the Zurich women 4:5 and thus for the third time. And this despite catching up twice.

While the guests didn’t manage to make it through the opening third (two goals conceded in six minutes), Rebecca Rocella scored the next goal shortly before the first break. The Davos team finally carried the momentum into the second third. Ladina Staub equalized in the 24th minute to make it 2-2. In the middle of the game they don’t seem to be able to do much. First the ZSC Lions players made it 3:2 when they were outnumbered, before they increased it to 4:2 shortly afterwards.

In the final third, the Davos women found their way back into the game and, thanks to Janine Hauser (46th) and Rebecca Rocella (50th), equalized to 4:4. Until shortly before the end of the regular playing time it looks like extra time, if it weren’t for Zurich’s goal to make it 5:4 in the 59th minute. With one more field player and HCD Ladies goalie Jessica Streicher on the bench, the Ladies cannot equalize again.

It was the fifth defeat in a row for the Davos team on Sunday. They are now in the fight for a play-off place with Neuchatel. The ladies still have two games left in this qualification – another game against the ZSC Lions is scheduled for Saturday. The next day the ladies meet SC Langenthal at home.

Results: ZSC Lions – Davos 5:4 (2:1, 2:1, 2:2). Bern – Ambri-Piotta 7:6 (3:0, 3:1, 1:5). Fribourg-Gottéron – Langenthal 3:1 (0:0, 2:1, 1:0). Ladies Lugano – Neuchâtel Academy 0:5 (0:1, 0:3, 0:1).
