Poland says a Russian missile briefly violated its airspace during an attack on Ukraine

Polish army spokesman Jacek Goryszewski he said that a missile launched by Russia in the night between Saturday and Sunday violated the airspace of Poland for 39 seconds: the missile entered the airspace for about a few kilometers at a speed of about 800 kilometers per hour before entering Ukraine in Lviv area, where he was headed. The entire flight was observed by the military radar systems of the Polish army, which activated the defense systems in response. Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz said Poland will continue to support Ukraine both militarily and humanitarianly.

The missile was part of an attack launched by Russia against Kiev and the area around Lviv. The Russian army launched 57 missiles and drones in the attack. Ukrainian air defenses destroyed 18 of 29 missiles and 25 of 28 drones, the air force said. According to Ukrainian authorities, no people were killed or injured in the attack.

These attacks were mounted two days later by one of the largest Russian bombing raids on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in two years of war – an attack that left more than a million people without electricity in various Ukrainian regions. For several weeks, Ukraine has also been carrying out attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, in particular oil refineries.
