Qibla Film Hasn’t Passed Censorship

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Film Censorship Institute (LSF) open voice about Qiblah, an Indonesian horror film, which has sparked controversy recently. The film received a lot of criticism because it was considered to defame and exploit religion.

Since the release of the poster, many parties, including religious figures, have voiced criticism and hopes that the film will not be shown in Indonesian cinemas.

Based on information on the social media bio of Leo Pictures as the production house, Qibla, which is being worked on by director Bobby Prasetyo, is scheduled to be broadcast in 2024.

LSF also stated that Qibla has not yet passed censorship. The statement ‘passed censorship’ from the LSF is something that must be obtained by the production house so that it can show the film in Indonesia.

“The Qibla film has not passed censorship, it is still in the review process,” LSF Deputy Chair Ervan Ismail told CNNIndonesia.comMonday (25/3).

“I remember the film from February [2024] has gone in for review, determining whether there are appropriate scenes or classifications for this film.”

Ervan then revealed several things that made the film Qibla not pass the LSF censorship. However, he admitted that he could not reveal all the things that influenced this condition.

“There are several points that need to be corrected or adjusted. For example, the CGI is not actually complete as a film so it still needs to be improved,” he said.

“There are several points that cannot be conveyed openly, but they have been conveyed to the filmmakers.”

Therefore, Ervan said that LSF is currently still waiting for the film owner to repair Qibla first or not. Repairs, said Ervan, are needed so that the film is intact and reviewed to get censorship pass status.

“We are still waiting for that process,” he said.

Qibla is a horror film that uses religious concepts in its storytelling. It is not yet clear when this film will be shown in cinemas. However, the film by director Bobby Prasetyo is projected to be broadcast this year.

A number of top artists star in this horror film, including Yasmin Napper, Arbani Yasic, Ria Ricis, Hana Saraswati and Dennis Adhiswara.

The synopsis of the film Qibla tells the story of Ainun (Yasmin Napper) who lives with her relatives. He and Rini (Ria Ricis), who is his best friend, idolize Abah Mulya, the leader of the hermitage in Bumi Suwung Village.

Abah Mulya is considered to be able to cure various types of diseases and even multiply money. Therefore, Ainun often imitates her idol.

However, the situation changed when Ainun heard the news that Abah Mulya had died mysteriously. He came to the hermitage to find out the facts and a number of scary things happened.
