Read up before the match against Ajax / Bodø/Glimt

The decisive return match between Bodø/Glimt and Ajax at Aspmyra is approaching. We have reached the second play off match which will decide who will take their place in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-offs.

Glimt has been in this round twice before. In 2022, the all-yellow beat Scottish league champions Celtic 5-1 on aggregate, and were rewarded with a place in the competition’s round of 16. At the time, Glimt led 3-1 from the first match in Glasgow.

Last year Bodø/Glimt was also in the play off match. Then the Norwegians came from the Europa League and started the double match at home. It ended 0-0 against the Polish league champion Lech Poznan. In the return match in Poland, it called a halt, and the Poles won 1-0 on aggregate.

Now Glimt is once again ready to fight for a place in the play-offs. The starting point is simple. Glimt must beat Ajax. The winner takes a place in the round of 16.

Danish dominance

Glimt and Ajax clashed in the Dutch capital on Thursday a week ago. An off-season Glimt team showed no mercy to the shell-shocked Dutch, setting the standard from the start.

No one reacts if we claim that Glimt played a very good football match, and the first half in particular was impressive from the northerners. Albert Grønbæk was the man of the match, and the tournament’s big player, when he scored two great goals against the old powerhouse.

Already after 16 minutes, Ajax’s German goalkeeper had to pick the first ball out of the net at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Glimt continued with a very nice attack, starting from the back. The score was later named the goal of the round in the tournament.

But Glimt’s Danish candlelight wasn’t done with it. Halfway into the second half, he stole the ball close to Ajax’s goal and hammered home his second goal of the evening. In the previous round, Albert Grønbæk was named player of the round in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
