Egyptian President Sisi said that harming Egypt’s national security is a red line that no one can cross. Sisi emphasized in his speech that acting wisely and dedicating to peace “does not mean that we will allow anyone to damage our country’s capabilities.”

Sisi said, “We are not trying to export fantasies, nor do we want to stimulate people’s feelings. The Egyptian people’s worries about water resources are reasonable,” and said, “We tell Ethiopia that we are ready to cooperate with you on power issues, and Cooperate in ways that help your people develop and prosper.”

Sisi added that Cairo asked Ethiopia to reach a legal agreement on water rights and the revitalization of dam operations. The government is still working in this direction, and pointed out that Egypt does not seek to threaten or interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, but hopes to cooperate with other countries. .

Against this background, Sisi explained that Egypt’s move in the Security Council aimed to put the dam recovery crisis on the agenda of the international community, calling on Ethiopia and Sudan’s “brother countries” to conclude a binding legal agreement and stay away from threats.

As part of water conservation measures, Sisi said that his country is taking measures to save water because the government has allocated £60 billion for canal lining projects to save water and prepare for the future.

Ethiopian warning

Earlier, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Redwan Hussein believed that his country is currently facing a challenge, which is that it is increasingly plagued by multiple issues such as the rehabilitation of the dam, the border and the Tigray region. At the same time, Sudan called on the UN Security Council to shoulder its responsibilities and push for a binding agreement on the dam issue.

Hussein warned that his country was forced to take comprehensive measures against organizations and parties — without mentioning specific names — claiming that these organizations and parties were launching campaigns to strangle his country instead of providing assistance.

On the other hand, according to the Ethiopian News Agency, the deputy commander of the military department responsible for protecting the reconstruction dam, Colonel Azini Himelis, stated that the Ethiopian army is working hard to provide the necessary protection for the dam, adding that the protection action includes ensuring The construction of the dam is completed, any troops are prevented from entering the area, and the second stage of the dam’s water storage is completed.

Sudan’s position

At the same time, Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdullah Hamduk emphasized that Khartoum’s submission of the dam rehabilitation issue to the UN Security Council does not mean abandoning Africa’s role in this issue.

According to a report by the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA), Hamduk and Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara discussed the above news in a statement between the World Bank International Development Agency’s meeting in Abidjan, the economic capital of Ivory Coast.

Thanks to the efforts of Sudan and Egypt, the Security Council held a meeting on July 13 to discuss the Ethiopian reconstruction of the dam crisis. At the meeting, it reiterated its support for Africa’s view of resolving dam differences through mediation.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Shukri said at the Security Council meeting that the AU-led efforts to deal with the crisis have come to an end.

On July 5, Ethiopia notified Egypt and Sudan, the lower Nile countries, that it would initiate the second water storage operation of the Renaissance Dam without reaching a tripartite agreement. Cairo and Khartoum opposed this.
