AS Roma succeeded in subverting Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 in the first leg of the last 16 Europa League. This puts the Giallorossi one foot in the quarterfinals.

Roma vs Brighton took place at the Olimpico, Friday (8/3/2024) early morning WIB. The hosts took a 2-0 lead in the first half through Paulo Dybala and Romelu Lukaku.

The other two goals came after the break. Roma scored goals through Gianluca Mancin and Bryan Cristante to close the match 4-0.

This result means that Roma can confidently visit Brighton’s headquarters in the second leg next week. As long as they don’t lose more than 0-3, Roma can advance to the quarterfinals.

The Course of the Match

Roma almost took the lead when the game had only been running for two minutes. Romelu Lukaku managed to head the ball in front of the penalty box, but Jason Steele was able to push it away.

Roma’s other attempt came in the seventh minute. Through a counter-attack, Stephan El Shaarawy fired a shot which the ball was saved.

Roma led 1-0 in the 13th minute. Paulo Dybala scored a goal after being released from an offside position when receiving Leandro Paredes’ through ball.

Brighton had a golden opportunity in the 24th minute. Danny Welbeck fired a header and Mile Svilar was able to parry the ball.

Roma increased their lead to 2-0 in the 43rd minute through Lukaku. He successfully scored a goal after Lewis Dunk failed to control the ball.

Svilar makes a save in injury time. The Roma goalkeeper brilliantly parried Welbeck’s shot. The 2-0 score lasted until halftime.

Roma was still fierce in the second half. The intensity of the attacks by Daniele De Rossi’s troops was not reduced.

Roma increased their lead to 3-0 in the 64th minute. Gianluca Mancini successfully poked the ball into El Shaarawy’s cross at the far post.

Roma’s lead increased to 4-0 in the 68th minute. This time it was Bryan Cristante who scored with a header.

Brighton failed to score a consolation goal in the remaining time. This made Roma finish the match with a landslide victory.
