Roy Hodgson finished as manager of Premier League club Crystal Palace – Dagsavisen

The London club confirms the decision in its media channels mandag. It comes after days of media speculation that Hodgson would be sacked.

– This club is very special and has been a big part of my football life. I understand that the club must think ahead at this time, and therefore I have decided to step aside, says Hodgson.

On Thursday, Palace stated that 76-year-old Hodgson fell ill in training and had to be sent to hospital.

The move to replace Hodgson as manager comes at the same time as the relegation zone in the Premier League moves closer and closer for Palace.

Weak form

Hodgson was originally out of contract for the current season. Last year Ringreven made a comeback as Palace manager and steered the team out of trouble, but in recent months things have been very slow.

Three wins in the last 17 league games mean that the club is only five points ahead of Everton in the relegation zone. Hodgson said as recently as Monday a week ago that he felt confident he could have led the club to another season in the top flight.

– I am not worried about being relegated. At the moment we are playing without three of our four most experienced quality players, but they will not be out for the rest of the season, the Englishman told the BBC after the 1-3 loss to Chelsea.

– We have injury problems and some young players who are trying to fit in. I hope the fans are realistic, Hodgson added.

Oldest coach

Hodgson is by a good margin the oldest Premier League manager of all time. He also managed Crystal Palace in the years 2017 to 2021.

As early as 1976, Hodgson started his career as head coach. At the first attempt, he led Halmstad to the series title in Sweden. Later, the road led to an abrupt club and national team job.

Among other things, he coached Viking between 2004 and 2006. Hodgson has also been manager of Liverpool (2010-11) and England (2012-16).
