San Lorenzo debuted in the Argentine Cup with a fair victory against Independiente de Chivilcoy

Ciclón had a difficult time against the humble Federal A team, but they fought and beat them 1-0 thanks to a nice goal from Cristian Tarragona.

Suffering, San Lorenzo advanced in the 2024 Argentine Cup. In its debut in the competition, Rubén Darío Insúa’s Ciclón did not play well on the Quilmes field, but beat Independiente de Chivilcoy (from Federal A) 1-0 thanks to a nice goal from Cristian Tarragona. In the next instance, the round of 16, they will face the winner of the cross between Tigre and Chacarita.

Although in one of the first plays he scored a nice goal that was correctly and quickly disallowed (Diego Herazo scored well, but was ahead), San Lorenzo played a poor first half. Lacking ideas, speed and precision, they were a slow, predictable and harmless team. He practically did not kick the goal, taking that one from the Colombian striker. And the humble cast, at times, was encouraged to play, with good triangulations and some simple but vertical approaches.

In the second half, for several minutes, the match continued the same, with a weak San Lorenzo searching and Independiente holding on. Until, to the relief of all their fans, Ciclón broke the score at 59′: they did it by Tarragona, who took a strong, low cross shot from outside the area. It was his first goal in the Barça shirt. No minor fact: Insúa sent him to the field for the complement.

From that point on, Boedo’s team began to play more calmly and as the minutes passed they became clearly superior. So much so that, towards the end, his second goal seemed like it was about to fall. However, at 89′, Facundo Altamirano had to make a good save to maintain the 1-0 lead. The humble Independiente, with little and nothing, was not far from sending him to penalties. And so, suffering (there were six minutes of added time), San Lorenzo won.
