Shock in Chicago, where police killed a 13-year-old Hispanic boy, Adam Toledo, in that
that the police have called an “armed confrontation”. The teenager had been missing from home for a few days and on the morning of March 29 a police officer shot him dead after chasing him down an alley. The anger of the Hispanic community that demands justice, while the investigators have mounted
announced today that it intends to release the video of the shooting. The agent involved has been temporarily suspended from service.
The mother of the 13-year-old slain, Elizabeth Toledo, has called for transparency from the police, saying: “I just want to know what really happened to my baby.” And the mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, immediately demanded that the images of the agents’ body cameras regarding the shooting be made public. ”
Police said officers were called at around 2.30am at an address in Little Village, a predominantly Latin American neighborhood in western Chicago, responding to reports of gunshots. The policemen saw two people in an alley and started chasing them.
One, a 21-year-old boy, was arrested, while an agent chasing Adam shot once, hitting him in the chest, and the 13-year-old died instantly.
According to the officers’ first report, some media say, he was armed with a gun.
