In the morning, around 100 transformer stations and 3,400 households were affected, as Energie Steiermark announced. The region southwest of Leibnitz was particularly affected. Additional fitters from Graz and Eastern Styria were requested for the repair work, said Urs Harnik-Lauris, spokesman for Energie Steiermark.

An Italian low brought wintry conditions to southwestern Styria on Monday evening. The snowfall limit fell to 300 meters above sea level in the Leibnitz and Deutschlandsberg districts. The wine-growing regions as far as Leutschach and Eibiswald were also affected. The snow load on the leafy trees caused snow breakage. Energie Steiermark expected the situation to be defused around midday.
