Sofía Vergara defends herself against a lawsuit filed by the family of drug trafficker Griselda Blanco: ‘Fascinated by her’ | Series

Sofía Vergara spoke for the first time about the lawsuit filed by Griselda Blanco’s family against her. The Colombian-born American actress is in the sights of the drug trafficker’s children because of her latest series, ‘Griselda’, which tells the story of the “Godmother of Cocaine”.

Blanco’s adult children allege that the producer responsible and Vergara used the “family image without authorization.” The star played Griselda herself, showing part of her journey to consolidate the Medellín Cartel.

“I’m trying to understand you [Griselda] from the beginning,” Vergara said when asked about the legal action by Entertainment Tonight. “I was fascinated by her, because she accomplished so many things that were impossible for a woman, even though they were horrible things.”

Blanco had four children before she was murdered in 2012. The youngest of them, Michael Corleone Blanco — named after the character in the film ‘The Godfather’ — expressed his opinions about the series and condemned Sofía for not counting on her collaboration him for his performance in ‘Griselda’.

Vergara’s characterization, which involved a “war operation” to hide part of her beauty, was also criticized.

“It’s a slap in the face knowing that we come from the same land, the same culture. You should respect her and seek advice from her youngest son — her best friend, who visited her five times a week during her 23 years in prison. It’s not just a slap in my face, it’s a slap in the face of my ancestors,” Michael declared.

“Sofía Vergara did not consult any member of the Blanco family out of respect or to extract details before playing Griselda,” Elysa Galloway, legal representative for Griselda’s son, added.

Eric Newman, creator of the series, also spoke. “This isn’t my first time. The Escobar family made similar allegations,” he recalled, mentioning ‘Narcos’. “We had a very specific story we wanted to tell. Believe it or not, I don’t think that stops someone else from telling their own version of it.”
