Super-G today in Garmisch Partenkirchen – Allegre surprisingly triumphs on the Kandahar

As of: January 27, 2024 3:34 p.m

The Frenchman Nils Allegre surprisingly won the Super-G in Garmisch Partenkirchen. The winter high-flyers, however, were disappointing. Marco Odermatt and Cyprien Sarrazin missed the podium.

The Super-G in Garmisch Partenkirchen had one or two surprises in store. The Frenchman Nils Allegre was able to celebrate his first World Cup victory (1:11.92 minutes). The favorites were not on the podium.

Marco Odermatt narrowly missed the podium. Allegre’s teammate Cyprien Sarrazin fell behind more clearly. After his double victory on the Streif in Kitzbühel, he was out of steam on the Kandahar. Sarrazin ended up 10th (+0.64 seconds).

Special conditions on the Kandahar

“I actually felt bad this morning,” the winner admitted afterwards. But the “conditions with the salt” were “astonishingly good”. The piste in Garmisch Partenkirchen had been heavily treated with salt due to the significantly plus temperatures. The top drivers couldn’t cope with these conditions.

Like Allegre – Odermatt, Bosca surprised only fourth

This left room for others on the podium. The Italian Guglielmo Bosca surprisingly came in second place (+0.18 seconds). Odermatt’s compatriot Loic Meillard came third (+0.25 seconds). The high-flyer missed the podium by three hundredths of a second and had to settle for fourth place. This was only the second time this winter that the Swiss did not end up in the top 3.

The DSV drivers did not make it into the top ten. Simon Jocher did best. The man from SC Garmisch finished 18th in his home World Cup (+1.10 seconds). Romed Baumann ended up in 22nd place (+1.17 seconds), Andreas Sander was 28th (+1.56 seconds).
