That was the Angel Di María’s reaction after learning of the threats that were directed at his family due to his declaration of ending his career in Rosário, his hometown. According to the Portuguese newspaper ‘A Bola’, midfielder Rodrigo De Paul told a little about his teammate’s emotional side after the incident. “I was with him in the morning. Of course I’m not going to say things that are very personal, but we saw Angel (Di María) with tears in his eyes when he heard about the threats,” said De Paul.
The two are part of the Argentine team in these two Data Fifa friendlies. Currently playing for Benfica, in Portugal, the 36-year-old striker is already making plans to hang up his boots. De Paul said he was upset mainly because Di María was a person very close to the Argentine people.
“If there is someone who deserves the possibility of returning to our country whenever he wishes, it is him. I am very sad that things like this happen in Argentina. This is something very serious”, said the player. De Paul said that the incident did not diminish his companion’s feelings towards the Argentine people. But he said that after the threats, Di María will need to rethink his future.
“Despite what happened, the love he has for the country and his city doesn’t change. But he will have to make a decision. They were very strong things,” said De Paul about the tone of the threats made allegedly by narco-terrorists, responsible for the wave of violence in the city of Rosário.
