Texas, the husband of the teacher killed while protecting his students dies 2 days later: “Broken heart”

The husband of Irma Garcia, one of two teachers killed in Tuesday’s Texas elementary school shooting, has died. The news is reported by his nephew, John Martinez, according to whom his uncle Joe, who was 50, would have died “of a broken heart.”
Martinez, 21, says he was informed that his uncle may have died of cardiac arrest and that attempting to revive him with chest massage would have no effect.

The couple, she says, had four children together and they were high school boyfriends. Irma, 46, had been teaching at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde for 23 years.
The family created a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of Irma’s funeral. Now on the crowdfunding platform there is another campaign to cover the costs of both funerals.
