“We took the baby, he was cold, frozen, he barely moved.” So Juan Francisco, of the Spanish Civil Guard stationed in Ceuta, told of the rescue of a newborn at sea, on Monday, during the massive wave of arrivals of migrants in the autonomous city. In a radio interview, the agent recalled some of the most dramatic episodes experienced on that first day: “The children and babies we saw we immediately went to get them, first of all we had to get them out of the water; sometimes we didn’t understand if what we saw were backpacks, clothes or babies, it was traumatic ”.
