Over the course of two decades, this murderous duo dedicated themselves to the search, mutilation, consumption, and distribution of their victims’ meat. Their crimes were almost perfect, until their cell phone provided damning evidence in the form of photographs of their grotesque acts.
Natalia, born in 1975, had a professional background as a head nurse in the sanitary department of the Krasnodar Higher Military Aviation College. However, she was fired due to chronic alcoholism. Dmitry, born in 1982, had prior brushes with the law for shoplifting and vehicle theft but managed to evade serving time for those offenses. He worked as an apartment restorer and general laborer.
Living together in a school dormitory since 2012, Natalia had inherited from her previous husband, the Bakshéyevs presented asocial behaviors within their community. Nevertheless, their abnormal activities went unnoticed until suspicions arose regarding the ingredients of Natalia’s meat pies, which she would offer to her neighbors. When questioned, she nonchalantly replied, “with what I find.”
Further investigations revealed that Natalia was also a meat and food supplier for the military base where she previously worked as a nurse, and she even ensured that the meat she sold reached prominent restaurants in the region. Local authorities are now urged to investigate these establishments.
One of Natalia’s victims was Elena Vashrushev, a 35-year-old waitress working at a nearby restaurant. She was lured to the Bakshéyevs’ house and met her tragic end there.
The couple’s murderous activities were uncovered when Dmitry lost his cell phone, which was found by a worker who stumbled upon horrifying images in the device’s gallery. Dmitry was seen holding a human hand to his mouth in one of the photos, and Elena, the missing woman, appeared among the images. According to the files on the phone, Elena was murdered on September 8, 2017, during a drunken altercation. She suffered multiple stab wounds.
Authorities promptly arrived at the couple’s home and made a ghastly discovery. Amidst the disorder, they found seven packages containing human remains and 19 fragments of dead skin in the kitchen. The Bakshéyevs later admitted to keeping parts of their victims in this appliance with the intention of consuming them.
Initially charged with murder, the Bakshéyevs also faced accusations of group murder. Natalia was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while Dmitry received a 12-year sentence.
