Former Suriname dictator Desi Bouterse, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison last month for the murders of more than a dozen political opponents in 1982, has failed to surrender to authorities as planned on Friday and has disappeared. His wife, Ingrid Bouterse-Waldring, stated that she did not know where he was and declared, “He is not going to jail!” Bouterse has also attacked the judicial authorities, alleging that his conviction was politically motivated.
