NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has strongly condemned the recent Russian espionage activities uncovered in Germany and the United Kingdom. Stoltenberg warned that the allies need to coordinate closely to react against hostile actions by Russia.
During a brief appearance in Berlin with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Stoltenberg emphasized the need for vigilance against Russia’s covert activities within the alliance. He expressed full support for Germany and the United Kingdom, stating that the espionage measures are unacceptable and will not deter NATO from continuing to support Ukraine.
Stoltenberg praised Germany for bolstering NATO’s eastern flank and increasing defense spending in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Scholz reiterated the importance of supporting Ukraine to defend the security architecture in Europe.
In further support for Ukraine, Germany announced plans to deliver a third Patriot missile launch battery to the country. Spain also pledged to send long-range Patriot anti-aircraft missiles and various types of ammunition and medical supplies to Ukraine.
The Spanish Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, announced the aid shipment during a ministerial meeting of the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine. Spain’s contributions to air defense include anti-aircraft missiles, hospital medicines, and heavy caliber artillery ammunition.
Overall, NATO and its allies are united in their support for Ukraine and determination to counter Russian aggression. The international community continues to stand firm in solidarity with Ukraine in the face of ongoing security threats.
