The Russian Supreme Court closes Memorial, a historic human rights NGO

The Russian Supreme Court ordered the closure of Memorial, the oldest and most important human rights group, which chronicled the purges of the Stalin era and was a symbol of post-Soviet democratization. Judge Alla Nazarova ordered the closure of Memorial International, the organization’s central structure, accused of acting as a “foreign agent”.
