In the United States, an aid package for Ukraine of over 60 billion dollars has been blocked in Congress for almost half a year, helped by Trump-loyal Republicans, writes NTB. Several politicians and experts have warned of the consequences for Ukraine if US support does not materialise.

At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has warned that the country badly needs more ammunition and air defense in the fight against the Russians.

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is now urgently asking that the Republicans and presidential candidate Donald Trump support the aid package for the Ukrainians in the war against Russia and Vladimir Putin.

– Donald Trump will fail to “Make America Great Again” if he lets Ukraine fall into the hands of Vladimir Putin, warns Johnson, according to The Telegraph.

“Make America Great Again”, or “MAGA”, is Trump’s well-known slogan.

US position at stake

After a meeting with Trump in March, Hungary’s embattled Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated that Trump will not spend anything financially on the “Ukraine-Russia war” if he becomes president again.

Boris Johnson believes that the Republicans and the Democrats both have to be on Ukraine’s side in the war. Only then will the US retain its status as the world‘s superpower, he believes.

– If you are Ronald Reagan’s (former American president from the Republicans, journ. note) party, and if you want to make America great again, then you cannot start a potential Republican presidential term with a defeat against Vladimir Putin. It will be a disaster for the West and for the United States, says the former prime minister.

Top Republican’s Ukraine Plea

The high-profile senator Mitch McConnell (82), who is the Republican minority leader in the Senate, has promised to fight hard to secure support for Ukraine in his own party.

– We do not lose any American soldiers in the war. It is the Ukrainians who are fighting. And if Russia takes Ukraine, a NATO country will be next on the list. Then suddenly we are in the middle of it, McConnell said earlier in April.

McConnell’s father fought on the ground for the United States in World War II, and the 82-year-old has said that his father always warned him about the threat from Russia. This feeling has only grown stronger, according to the senator, which has contributed to him putting a lot of effort into the work on the support package.
