LONDON – Austrian or Swedish neutrality: will this be the magic formula that can end the war? Many are asking this, in the face of rumors about the peace plan discussed by Moscow and Kiev, waiting to understand if it is a move by Putin to buy time or a serious negotiation. The heart of an eventual agreement is precisely Ukraine’s choice to remain neutral, or rather not to join NATO, announced by President Zelensky himself; and the model, from what the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov says, could precisely be Austria or Sweden.
