A new Peruvian standing out abroad and raising the name of the country. This time, Juan Terán, a Systems Engineering student, is among one of those classified to win the title of Best Programmer in the World. The university student will compete against 25 contestants worldwide.

The student from the National University of Engineering (UNI) participates in the CodeVita Contest, organized by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). This event gathered a total of 100 thousand students, but few were able to make it to the final, which will take place on March 21.

This programming contest is one of the largest in the world. In the region alone, seven students will participate, including our compatriot and six representatives from Chile, who managed to stand out.

Juan is in his third year at university, a little more than halfway through his career. He tells Andina that when he found out about this contest at his college, he did not hesitate to participate along with other Peruvians, who managed to advance to the next phase.

After this, the company organizing the event began a phase of direct collaboration with the Peruvian qualifiers in a recent event, by organizing a face-to-face meeting for participants who until now had only interacted virtually. This is how it strengthened relationships between competitors and with the organization itself.

Each process was more difficult, but its objective remained the same. The university student shows his gratitude to his coach and graduate of the same school, Jorge Huamán, who supported him every day before starting this great challenge.

He confesses that in the second phase the nerves and anxiety were present as he had to go through a test that lasted six hours. This exam was definitive to reach the final and so it was; The call from human resources appeared on his phone to give him the good news.

He received this great achievement with great joy along with his loved ones, who did not hesitate to congratulate him. Now, the next phase is to travel to India and meet the 25 qualifiers to find out who will take this title.

Terán confesses that the tests they would review every day in a work environment, because they must look for solutions. This is how the student qualifies as “practical”, but it is not only acquired in the academic field, but, to a large extent, depends on the research and autonomous learning of those interested.

“Whether through the creation of programs or algorithms, among others. These algorithms are learned by researching each one on their own,” he told the aforementioned media.

In this way, remember that you had to evaluate the distance of traveling on a plane, but find the shortest route to reduce the arrival time. “At first it is complicated, because you start to see new topics that you don’t know about and you have to investigate, but then you have that pleasure of being able to solve it,” she adds.

Juan shows that with perseverance and responsibility you can achieve your goals, because he already participated in another competition, but did not manage to advance to the next stage. Now, he has a new opportunity to become one of the best, although reaching this stage is already a great advance.

It should be noted that, in this edition, 20 thousand dollars in prize money and the trophy will be distributed to the winner. Additionally, those who manage to qualify among the top positions will obtain places and exchange opportunities.
