NEW YORK – Darius Lee, 21, a college basketball star, was killed and eight others were injured in a shooting at a party in Harlem. According to the New York police, cited by the AP, officers were called shortly after midnight local time for a shooting along FDR Drive and found several people injured. Other victims went to the hospital on their own. Darius Lee was a senior student at Houston Baptist University in Texas. Growing up in Harlem, he had attended St. Raymond High School for Boys in the Bronx and returned home for the summer vacation. The wounded are six boys and two girls.

The New York Daily News reported that the party was organized by Harlem rapper Rich Rhymer, who posted the invitations on his Instagram account. Lee, a guard and forward, played basketball at a community college in Sullivan County in New York before enrolling at Houston Baptist University. He was supposed to graduate in December with a thesis in sports management. He had been named Student Athlete of the Year by the university.
