Winner of 24 statuettes, African-American rapper Jay-Z criticized the choice of “Album of the Year” at the 2024 Grammys, which had singer Taylor Swift’s album “Midnights” as the winner.

The singer pointed out inequalities and injustices in the award ceremony when speaking during the honor he received in the “Dr. Dre Global Impact” category, aimed at artists with an impact on the music industry.

In his speech, Jay-Z remembered that Beyoncé, the musician’s wife, has never won the “Album of the Year” category, even though she is the biggest winner in the history of the award, with 32 Grammys.

Alongside Blue Ivy, the couple’s daughter, the singer reinforced his understanding that choices are based on opinions, but asked for seriousness in evaluations.

“We just want you to get it right, or at least get close to getting it right. (…) I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone and has never won ‘Album of the Year’. Think about that. That doesn’t make sense,” he said.

Applauded, Jay-z also spoke about some artists feeling “robbed”, and that some actually were, according to him, but that it is necessary to continue projects beyond the Grammys.

“Just keep coming, forget about the Grammys. In life, you have to keep showing up until they give you all the accolades you think you deserve, until they call you president, until they consider you the greatest of all time , understand?”, concluded the rapper, raising the statuette.
