He was 94 years old, the funeral will be celebrated in Pozzuolo
UDINE. Udine vets have lost their dean. On Sunday, at the age of 94, Dino Della Bianca died, who was among the first to understand and support the importance of veterinary medicine for nutrition and health because – he repeated – if an animal is well, even the product that will end on our table will be of quality.
Born in Cassacco, Della Bianca was the first of the family to graduate, but the path to reach the finish line was not at all easy. Already to graduate from Stellini, many times he had to reach the school by bike, as an alternative to the tram. Then he helped his family in working in the fields and was able to enroll in the Milan State University only when the San Carlo college hired him as tutor. The condition for being able to attend studies was to always obtain high marks so as not to have to pay university fees, a condition that he satisfied without difficulty.
Even then Della Bianca, moved by the great passion he had for animals and their care, distinguished himself in his studies. And in Milan he also had the opportunity to meet the then cardinal Giovanni Battista Montini. The future Paul VI noticed him in a meeting with the students because he did not wear a coat despite the cold and, knowing that he could not afford it, he had one delivered to the boarding school.
After graduating in 1957, Della Bianca never stopped studying, obtaining a specialization and attending 14 specialization courses. Even after retirement he continued to study, also publishing a volume on the first ninety years of the order of veterinarians. Among his passions, in addition to animals, there was also the art of mosaic and on the occasion of the presentation of the volume he gave the order the caduceus which is the coat of arms of the category made by himself with that technique.
After working as a volunteer assistant at the zooprophylactic institute, he obtained his first assignment in 1960 as head of control in a consortium and then in 1973 he obtained the conduct of Ampezzo and from 1979 to 1992, the year of his retirement, that of Pozzuolo del Friuli. where he moved with his wife Felicia Rizzo with whom he had three children: Stefania, Luca and Damiano. «Dino Della Bianca was such a brilliant figure that, for his category, he needs no introduction – remind the veterinary order chaired by Alberto Bernava -. He really made the history of the Friulian veterinary, both professionally and “literally”: in fact, in addition to having had a long and prestigious career in public medicine, he has published numerous scientific talks and summarized the history of the order in the province of Udine. Gifted with a jovial and sunny character, as well as a particularly witty spirit that made him sympathetic to everyone, Della Bianca was a highly esteemed professional because he has always believed in the importance of the veterinary profession as a tool for safeguarding human and animal health ” .
The funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday 8 September, at 5 pm, in the church of Pozzuolo.
