A woman from Livinallongo who manages the small grocery store and the adjoining bar in the hamlet of Andraz falls into the trap

LIVINALLONGO. “Hello, we saw that your phone bill is too high.” And the unwanted operator change scam is triggered. The technique is always the same. The phone rings, usually that of elderly people, and on the other side of the handset there is a voice that, pretending to be the operator of a telephone company with a name reminiscent of the one to which the unsuspecting user is subscribed, proposes a ‘ he said the most advantageous offer. Once the migration code has been obtained, the operator changes with an almost unknown company.

Trapped an operator

To fall into the trap this time was a lady from Livinallongo, Margherita Casaril, who runs the small grocery store and the adjoining bar in the hamlet of Andraz. Margherita has already turned to a lawyer and the carabinieri; but, despite the repeated cancellation letters and telephone calls, also sent to Telecom for information, after a month she still found herself a “customer” of the new operator. But most importantly, and what is worse, no internet connection, essential for its business.

The story

«In early April», says Margherita, «I receive a call from an operator who says to call for an elusive“ Blu Telecom ”. I am a Telecom subscriber; after this voice told me that I pay too high a bill for my household, I let myself be persuaded to provide all my data, obviously including the migration code. The same voice also tells me that we need to install a more modern router ». The next day, however, Margherita begins to have some doubts about that strange phone call and she decides to see more clearly. “Luckily I had my brother here who helped me with the activity, since this winter I had a shoulder surgery, and he is more practical than me with the computer”. A few searches on the internet are enough to discover that there is no “Blu Telecom”. But the telephone numbers that, providentially, Mrs. Margherita had managed to obtain from the telephone operator are registered in the name of “Cloud Italia” based in via Calamandrana in Arezzo. Having the certainty of having been the victim of an obvious scam, the woman immediately sends a letter to make use of the right of withdrawal, given that it was within the 14 days required by law. «To be even safer», she continues, «I also phoned Telecom, explaining what happened and asking if they could change the operator without their consent. Something that has always been confirmed to me the other two or three times I called back ». Towards the end of April a package is delivered to Signora Margherita. “But they weren’t the creams I was expecting. Not knowing what it contained, I didn’t want it. But the courier refused to take it back, so we opened it and found out it was the router. On the advice of the carabinieri I sent it back, but after a few days it returned to me. And I sent it back to the sender again without even opening it. On April 28th I realize that my internet line has been disconnected and now, as the Telecom operators have confirmed, I find myself subscribed to a company I did not want ».

Legal support

Ms. Margherita obviously turned to a lawyer, but without the internet line she is unable to send the fees for the shop to the Revenue Agency and now she even risks a penalty. «I am also angry with Telecom», she concludes, «because they have always assured me that I did not risk the change of manager. But I will go on the legal route. It is not always right to be silent. Also because I understand that I was not the only one around here to suffer this scam ». –
