Farewell to two intellectuals from Novi, Franco Arona and Mario Franchini

by admin

NOVI LIGURE. The world of Novese culture mourns the disappearance of two characters who have given prestige to local culture: Pier Franco Arona and Mario Franchini.

Both were teachers but in addition to the school, everyone’s memory is mainly directed towards the numerous literary and scientific initiatives in which they were protagonists.

Franco Arona he was 83 years old and his name is mainly linked to his long years of teaching chemistry at the Volta institute, now Ciampini – Boccardo di Novi, forming numerous generations of students, who became professionals or in turn teachers. A science teacher, actually, but with a predilection for chemistry.

He leaves his wife Luciana, also a teacher, and his sons Marcello, manager in Great Britain, and Alessandro, former councilor of Novi and journalist of Il Sole 24 ore.

Also linked to his cousin Pinuccio Arona, also a professor of chemistry and also a teacher at Ciampini, with whom he co-authored books, always with the theme of chemistry.

The funeral will be held today at 4 pm in the church of the Sacred Heart of Novi.

Mario Franchini he was the animator of numerous Novesi cultural circles and a profound scholar of local history, publishing about twenty books. Originally from Garbagna. He was 89 years old and had also been editor of the Novi weekly Panorama. The last literary effort concerns a study of the Val Borbera through art.
