CAGLIARI. Three turtles were rescued in the last two days in Porto Rotondo, Terralba and La Maddalena and are currently in Cres, the Sinis recovery center, where experts are taking care of them.

The first specimen is three months old, 9 centimeters long and weighing just under one hundred grams. It is one of the very first times that such a small Caretta cart is recovered alive. The specimen ended up on the Marinella beach in La Maddalena, probably driven by cold currents. It was identified by a woman who called the experts of the marine protected area of Tavolara who in turn then handed it over to the Cres specialists.

Another small turtle was rescued in the water in Marceddì by the clam fisherman Marco Altea. The Caretta caretta swam with difficulty because it had injuries to its fins which were trapped in bags and nylon ropes. The turtle, christened Arsella, 25 centimeters long and weighing almost two kilos is now in one of the tanks of the recovery center. Like the last exemplary rescue, Giovannina, a Caretta caretta, rescued by the mooring boat Giovanni Varrucciu, inside the port in Porto Rotondo. This turtle, 4 years old, 25 kilos in weight and 60 centimeters in length, also swam with great difficulty. She still had nylon ropes around her neck which caused a deep wound. The mover called the Forest Service. After being taken over by the operators of the Tavolara Marine Protected Area, the turtle is now in the recovery center. (Handle).
