Losing its appeal in the US, Johnson & Johnson ordered to pay 2.1 billion dollars for its carcinogenic talc

by admin

The American Supreme Court dismisses Johnson & Johnson’s appeal: the company will have to pay 2.1 billion dollars for its talcum powder, which has been targeted in dozens of lawsuits because it is accused of causing cancer. Without comment, Bloomberg reports, the Supreme Court refused to consider J&J’s objections to the 2018 verdict of a St. Louis jury that talc helped cause ovarian cancers in 20 women. Jurors had set $ 25 million for each of the 20 women in compensatory damages and 4 billion in punitive damages. A figure then halved by the court of appeal.
