In addition to UI tweaks, Google Play has introduced a new area for “Compatibility for your active devices” to indicate whether an app is compatible with the device being used.
According to 9to5Google, device compatibility is currently only open to some users and devices, and users who have received a test invitation can access it at the bottom of the “About this app” section of the app list.
After clicking on it, you will find that the official introduction says “This area shows you whether this application is available for your device. You will only see devices associated with your Google account that have been active in the past 30 days” .
In addition, there are subdivision options within the region, including mobile phones, Wear OS watches, and Android TV/Google TV. In the subdivision option, you can view the device’s name, compatibility, version, occupied storage, supported operating system and other compatibility data.
9to5Google says that with the device compatibility area, the “App info” page of the app page becomes less necessary. With the breakdown option of device compatibility, it is convenient for Play Store users to view more related materials.
It is worth mentioning that the current device compatibility area shows the name of the device, but the subsection does not have a specific label to indicate what device it is used on.
The Play Store is currently undergoing a redesign, along with other changes.
1. Search is placed before the profile picture in the upper right corner and becomes a button, which is more concise. Accessible on all pages/tabs for added convenience.
2. The Apps tab view adds filtering options for Phone, Tablet, TV, Chromebook, Watch, and Car. But the game tab removes the watch and car filter options.
3. The preview of the application is larger, which can directly display the part of the preview video of the game. At the bottom of it you can also install, add to wishlists or see if the profile is available for the device.
4. When you click a movie in the “Movie” tab, its movie poster will be displayed in a large area in the background. Above it we can see a video preview button, the title of the movie, comments, etc.
