In 2023 the Fiamma cinema in largo degli Abeti will reopen its doors. Ten years after its closure, it will return to life as a gymnasium of the Body studio circuit, which will thus have five locations in the city. It will be the Fiamma Body studio. But the historic structure of 1954, in the heart of all the Palermitans, will not be upset. The 700 square meter cinema hall with its projection stage will become a fitness space. And while you follow the lessons of the various sports disciplines, themed images will scroll on the screen and films will also be projected.
“The adventure of the Fiamma cinema is a great emotion for us – says Giorgio Trupiano, manager of the Body Studio centers – It is a piece of history of this city that comes back to life after ten years of oblivion. A place in the heart of Palermo that we intend to respect. In fact, we are identifying an architect who can think of a non-invasive renovation project while respecting the historic cinema “.
The investment is approximately 2 million euros between the purchase of the property and all the work necessary to reopen the structure.
“As early as September, potential users will be able to pre-register in the new gym – says Trupiano – To start with activities at the beginning of 2023, in the meantime they will obviously be able to attend our other centers in the city”.
Largo degli Abeti will also be reborn. “The idea is to make the most of the outdoor space in front of the cinema entrance as much as possible for sports activities, which obviously is a public space. Also in this case with the utmost respect for the context with the use of special headphones to follow the activities we are already purchasing “.
After having received all the authorizations, the renovation works will start. The cinema closed in 2013 overwhelmed by the crisis that hit the sector. Then in 2014, the owners tried to turn it into a live music venue but without success. Then in 2021 the property ended up for sale on the real estate sites. Now a new story begins with the body studio.
