Last night, an art sharing session for the Chinese version of the opera “The Marriage of Figaro” was held at the Philharmonic Hall of Zheng Xiaoying Opera Art Center. In addition to the premiere video of the 1983 premiere, the original cast of the opera that premiered in China also appeared at the scene to reproduce classic arias.
The Chinese version of “The Marriage of Figaro” was translated by Zhang Chengmo, with music by Jiang Ying, and music editing by Wu Lingfen and Zheng Xiaoying. The performance is directed by Zheng Xiaoying as the artistic director, with the famous conductor Wu Lingfen as the conductor, and the famous baritone singer Liu Keqing as the rehearsal director.
It is worth mentioning that the Chinese version of “The Marriage of Figaro” features 11 original cast members from the first Vocal Opera Department of the Central Conservatory of Music, who premiered the opera in China in 1983, and will join hands with the Xiamen Opera Philharmonic to sing the leading roles. The troupe and the Fuzhou Strait Symphony Orchestra will present this classic work on a modern stage full of oil painting colors.

The entire opera takes place in one day, with 11 character actors. Various conflicts, strategies, scams, and coincidences are staged in the four scenes, which shows that the relationships between the characters are complex and the plot concept is also very sophisticated.
It is understood that it was from The Marriage of Figaro that the first generation of professionally trained opera talents in my country entered the professional opera stage and moved to the international opera stage. As a work that embodies the efforts of the older generation of opera people, “The Marriage of Figaro” has created a new pattern for the development of Chinese opera in the new era. The enthusiastic recall of the original cast is to promote “singing in foreign operas” and inherit and carry forward the fine tradition of singing Western classic operas in the Chinese mother tongue.
