Rick Owens officially unveiled his Spring/Summer 2023 collection “EDFU” at Palais de Tokyo, one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt. Inspired by this Egyptian cultural aesthetic, Rick Owens rethinks his place in the fashion world, inspired by a recent holiday in Egypt, where the creators of many of Egypt’s great monuments have been around for thousands of years.
For the fashion show, Rick Owens used 3 burnt metal spheres as stage backdrops, which were mechanically hoisted and rammed into fountains during the show. Rick Owens has delved into the realm of technical clothing, developing upside-down jackets, shirts and trousers in ripstop nylon and Dyneema, known as one of the strongest fabrics in the world. A selection of this season’s styles were created by Parisian brand Paradoxe, which has updated denim by re-structuring and made with Piracucu, a food by-product of Amazonian fish skins.
In addition to Rick Owens’ regular black, gray and white, many looks this season featured bright yellows, pinks, purples and greens in stark contrast to black and gray. Based on EDFU’s Egyptian theme, Rick Owens developed a full-body tulle look inspired by mosquito nets on vacation, and then took inspiration from ancient Egyptian formal wear to create a prominent shoulder design, and interested readers may wish to scroll down to watch the full runway show .
