FX168 Financial News (North America) On Thursday (June 24) local time, Microsoft announced the launch of a new Windows 11 system, which is the first time it has launched a new Windows system in 6 years. Microsoft said that this will be a free update and will be released to the public in the 2021 “holiday” season.

Windows 10 is the most widely used personal computer operating system in the world, with more than 1.3 billion devices using it. Windows accounts for more than 10% of Microsoft’s total revenue, although the company has achieved growth through the sale of cloud services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Windows 10 has become more important as people spend more time at home at school, work, and games. Microsoft reports that Windows revenue has increased, and shipments of personal laptops running Google’s Chrome operating system have soared.

After showing the biggest changes brought about by the Windows 11 system, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella (Satya Nadella) took the stage to try to explain how the new operating system makes Microsoft and another company with a popular operating system— -Apple is different.

“Today, the world needs a more open platform, a platform that allows applications to become its own platform,” he said.

Previously, Apple faced legal pressure and corporate complaints for controlling the way developers make money through the App Store.

In addition, Apple also restricts app developers from displaying anything that looks like a competitor’s store, such as apps that include downloading multiple app links. Last year, Apple blocked Microsoft from releasing an app that would allow people to play cloud-based video games on iOS. Microsoft has provided a similar application for Google’s Android mobile platform.

Apple also takes a 30% share from subsequent sales (such as subscriptions or in-game purchases) of all applications downloaded by users through its App Store. (The company recently cut commissions for small developers with annual revenues of less than $1 million to 15%)

With Windows 11, Microsoft “introduced new store business models and policies, and created new opportunities for local creators,” Nadella said.

The company allows third-party developers to use non-Microsoft commercial platforms in their applications without sharing any revenue with Microsoft.

End users can also download apps and games through non-Microsoft app stores such as Epic games and Valve Software.

Nadella said: “Personal computers need choices. We want to remove the barriers that often exist now and provide consumers and developers with more choices.”

The company is adding its Teams chat and video call application to Windows 11. The application can run on iOS, Android, Mac, the web, and Linux. In the past, Apple has been picky about the availability of Messages and FaceTime applications, but Apple said earlier this month that FaceTime will be available on Android and Windows systems this fall.

In the past, Apple has been resisted by promoting its own applications on its operating system. Microsoft does the same. But now, with Microsoft making it possible for anyone to download Android applications on Windows 11, the company has given people a wider range of choices.

At the time of writing, Microsoft (MSFT.O) shares rose 0.46%.
