Catania, shop robbery for smokers: framed by cameras and a footprint

Catania – The Carabinieri of the Catania Nesima station arrested the 36-year-old Francesco Greco Concept from Catania in execution of a precautionary custody order in prison issued by the GIP of the Etna Court. The man, pretending to be a customer, had entered, in July 2020, a resale shop for smokers’ items in via Stazzone where, taking out a cutter, with ineffable firmness and with “kind” ways, he told the saleswoman: “I don’t hurt you if you give me everything you have.”

The woman was petrified and the robber, jumped on the counter, grabbed the money contained in the cashier and also worrying about having a plastic bag delivered “politely” to put the coins in it, had fled immediately after on board his scooter parked nearby, but not before having “invited” the woman to give him time to escape before asking for help. The clerk was therefore immediately heard by the carabinieri telling them that the robber had presented himself with his face uncovered and only before taking action he had worn a surgical mask.

The military had therefore viewed the video surveillance system of the commercial activity thanks to the images of which they could immediately recognize the robber who, among other things, was subjected to house arrest for crimes related to the world of drugs. Then the soldiers went to the man’s house, but found it without him.

Furthermore, the evidence against Greco was also enriched by the finding of a fingerprint of the robber that the military of the Scientific Investigations Section of the Operational Department of Catania had detected at the crime scene, all irrefutable elements that have corroborated the issuance of the restrictive measure following which the robber was transferred to the Catania Piazza Lanza prison.
