Mourning in the world of music: Gianni Nazzaro is dead. He was 72 years old. He died at the Gemelli polyclinic in Rome, where he had been hospitalized for a few weeks for lung cancer. He was born as Giovanni Nazzaro in Naples on October 27, 1948. His artistic debut in 1965 with imitations of the voices of Bobby Solo, Adriano Celentano, Gianni Morandi. In 1968 he is noted at a Disco for the summer with the song “Solo noi”. His romantic songs marked a trait of pop music of the 70s. Among these “How beautiful is she”, perhaps the best known, “Love is a dove”, “White crystal clear”, “I never want to fall in love”, “My way” and “In the bottom of the soul”. He participates in the 1983 Sanremo Festival with the song “I fell in love with my wife”. In 1987 he tries to participate again but the song he proposed, “Perdere d’amore”, is rejected in the selections. Ironically, the same song was re-presented the following year by Massimo Ranieri (of which Nazzaro has always considered himself a rival, due to the same humble and Neapolitan origins, of the same kind of songs and of the same record company for a large part career) and wins the singing competition. Nazzaro will argue for a long time with the organizers for his exclusion. In 1998 he held the role of the father of Sara De Vito (Serena Autieri) in the soap opera “Un posto al sole”, returning to the main cast in 2009. In 2007 he also starred in the soap “Incantesimo”.
Gianni Nazzaro was linked to Nada Ovcina, with whom he had two children: Giovanni Junior, born in 1973, and Giorgia, born in 1976. After the separation, he was linked to Catherine Frank (real name Pleite Armonia Del Carmen), ex French mannequin, who gave him two sons: Davide and Mattia. In 2016 he re-established relations with Ovcina after a serious car accident that involved them in France: the singer lost a kidney and risked being paralyzed. In addition to being his partner, Nada also served as manager, agent and press office for him.
