Apple’s Vision Pro Head-Mounted Display Device Officially Launched in the US
Kuai Technology reported on February 5 that Apple’s first head-mounted display device, Vision Pro, has been officially launched in the United States, priced at US$3,499, or approximately RMB 25,000. The high-tech gadget has already attracted the attention of many domestic technology bloggers and enthusiasts, with some even using purchasing agents or flying to the United States in person to get their hands on the first release.
One such blogger, “Victory Wen Crepe,” conducted a drop test on the Vision Pro after acquiring it. The initial test on a wooden floor from a height of 1-1.8 meters showed no impact on the device. However, subsequent tests on ceramic tiles yielded unexpected results. In the 1-meter test, the Vision Pro smashed the tiles but remained intact, though slightly deformed. In the subsequent 2-meter test, the device yet again smashed the tiles, with the body and straps falling off, but the curved glass on the front remained intact.
Despite common assumptions about the fragility of curved glass, the Vision Pro proved to be surprisingly durable in actual testing. However, the cost of the device’s screen is high, with after-sales maintenance priced at $799, or about 5,750 yuan.
Interestingly, the blogger also tested the Huawei Mate 60 as a base plate for three tests of more than 2 meters, with both devices’ glass remaining intact. This demonstrates that the Kunlun II glass, used in the Vision Pro, is much stronger than ceramic tiles.
As the Vision Pro gains attention for its impressive durability and high cost, it remains to be seen how it will perform in the market. For those considering purchasing the device, it is clear that the curved glass on the front is much tougher than anticipated, providing reassurance for daily use.
