Maintain Stability, Improve Quality, and Increase Energy in 2023

Amidst the challenges of the past year, the business world is looking towards 2023 with a sense of cautious optimism. According to a report from International Business News reporter Shao Zhiyuan, business operations are expected to be generally stable in the coming year, with a focus on high-quality development and an increase in capacity.

Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao emphasized the importance of “maintaining stability”, “improving quality”, and “increasing capacity” during a recent press conference. These key principles are expected to guide business operations in 2023, as the industry seeks to make progress while ensuring stability and promoting high-quality development.

The first priority outlined by Minister Wang is to “guarantee stability” in the key drivers of the national economy, including consumption, investment, and net exports. Despite the challenges of the previous year, there were positive indicators in each of these areas. Total retail sales of consumer goods reached a record high, with final consumer spending expected to contribute significantly to economic growth in 2023. Additionally, both import and export of goods saw positive growth, and foreign investment increased significantly.

The second priority highlighted by Minister Wang is to “improve” the quality of business operations. This includes optimizing the structure of the economy and enhancing the quality and gold content of development. Key areas of improvement include the rapid growth of online retail sales, the increase in the proportion of investment in high-tech industries, and the expansion of foreign investment cooperation in green, digital, and other essential fields.

The third priority identified by Minister Wang is to “empower” new momentum for development in several key areas. This includes the emergence of new consumption hot spots, such as green, healthy, and smart products, as well as the growth of new engines for foreign trade, such as automobile exports and cross-border e-commerce. Additionally, new progress and breakthroughs have been made in areas such as foreign trade agreements and international economic and trade cooperation.

Looking ahead to 2023, Minister Wang emphasized the critical importance of the year in achieving the goals and tasks of the “14th Five-Year Plan”. The Ministry of Commerce is committed to fully implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the Second Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and to promoting high-quality business development in order to make a positive contribution to economic recovery and Chinese-style modernization.

As the business world continues to navigate the complex challenges of the global economy, the emphasis on maintaining stability, improving quality, and increasing energy will play a crucial role in shaping the path forward in 2023.
