The management consulting market has grown in recent years at rates that are a multiple of the increase in GDP, thus increasing its impact. This growth concerned “large” companies to a greater extent, given a process of concentration of the Italian market which is approaching the structure of the other large European countries. And a further improvement of over 6% is expected for 2024.

This is what emerges from Assoconsult’s numbers on a management consulting sector which in Italy is made up of over 25 thousand companies which in 2023 generated a total turnover of approximately 6.3 billion euros and employment of almost 60 thousand professionals. In 2023 it grew at a rate of about 10%. And now for 2024, despite the difficulties and uncertainties of the international context, further growth above 6 percent is expected.

«Our sector is constantly growing and we represent an increasingly useful support for companies to seize new opportunities while remaining in step with every new form of innovation that the market requires» comments Luigi Riva, president of Assoconsult, the Confindustria association which brings together strategic consultancy companies in Italy. «The more we support our customers – adds Riva – the more we realize there are large collateral spaces which also concern the need to respond in the correct times and ways to changes in regulations which require us to review processes. Above all, without a doubt, the need to adopt new sustainability requirements and achieve more challenging standards”.

The “Report on the Demand for Consulting Services among the Top Companies in Italy” should also be read in this context, now in its third edition and created by NetConsulting cube with the support of the Assoconsult Private Market working group. The research on the demand for consultancy services concerned the 400 top companies with a turnover of more than 500 million euros in Italy. The companies with more than 500 million (which are the top 400 interviewed) represent just over 50% of the private consultancy market which is worth a turnover of around 5.6 billion in 2023 (89% of the 6.3 billion in total). Result: business consultancy is appreciated by customers if it is true that over 85% of the Top companies interviewed perceive a value delivered equal to or twice the investment made. On a school scale from 1 to 10 the satisfaction level is therefore equal to 7.
