Djibouti Mayor Said Daoud Mohamed and his teams are accelerating the Zero Waste project, an initiative focused on environmental and social issues, bringing together a variety of stakeholders including local elected officials and civil society leaders with the goal of making waste reduction an effective means of preserving the environment.

At a meeting held this morning, the city council expressed its intention to make the 2nd arrondissement a model in terms of responsible waste management, underlining its impact on the quality of life, in particular that of residents, and on the fight against the effects of climate change.

Participants underlined the importance of raising awareness among the population by promoting responsible behavior in terms of consumption and waste management. We then talked about strengthening separate waste collection, through the creation of adequate infrastructures and raising citizens’ awareness of their importance.
