One wonders whose interests the wise men are pursuing with their proposal. In any case, it cannot be those of future generations. Because they are the ones who have to pay the interest on the additional debts with higher taxes. The argument that future generations will in return inherit a capital stock from which they will benefit is a cheap defense argument used by economists and politicians who presume to know the preferences of their descendants. In fact, they value their own interests more highly than the freedom and creative freedom of their children and grandchildren.
