Stefano Serra is president of the ITS Aerospace / mechatronics Foundation of Piedmont and for some months vice president of Federmeccanica with responsibility for training. “In Piedmont we have created an effective partnership with the business world and this is the key to the success of our proposal” underlines Serra who also follows the training dossier as vice president of the Turin Industrial Union.
How did you build the collaboration with the companies?
«With the companies we define the curves of the courses and we go to understand which subjects to deepen and how to assign the hours within the different paths. Then there is the issue of how we deliver training, 80% of the activities are provided by teachers who come from the world of work, professionals “of doing” and not “teaching”, this radically changes the way we learning from the kids. It is a slightly larger replica of what happened once in the company when a young graduate student was brought in, flanked by experienced people who became mentors for the young resources. In addition, two thirds of the training is provided on the job, between the laboratory and the company, out of a total of 1,800 hours. The 600 hours of training provided in the company often become a little more because about 60% of the students, even in the period of the pandemic, already have a high-level apprenticeship contract in the first year of the course “

What type of companies have you involved?

Overall, there are over 150 SMEs active in teaching courses. This is a strong point because the kids grow up alongside the most competent of a wide network of companies. The training model generates hybrids on different areas and subjects, it represents a unicum because it is different from the more self-referential path

How has the number of your pupils grown?
«We started the first year with 40 guys, today we work with 300 guys and in September we will have a 30% increase.
