An agreement between two giants of international standing: for the next three years the territory of Franciacorta (Brescia) will host the presentation of the famous Michelin tourist and gastronomic guide. A partnership, the one with the red guide, which underlines the growing value and entrepreneurial commitment of the winemakers of the Franciacorta area. Also in light of the fact that the Guide has a similar agreement in France with Champagne.
“An alliance, that between Franciacorta and Michelin, signed in the sign of a profound sharing on the level of food and wine enhancement, as well as on that of the sustainable environmental approach”, explains the joint statement announcing the agreement. “Franciacorta – adds the note – is an international synonym of wine culture, respect and listening to the territory: the partnership with the Michelin company is an important recognition that goes in the direction of rewarding the great commitment of this land and its denomination for the promotion of made in Italy in the world ».
The protection consortium
Established in 1950, the Consortium for the protection of Franciacorta wines obtained the Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin (DOCG) in ’95. It represents 121 wineries, 2,902 hectares of Franciacorta Docg cultivated, 15.6 million bottles produced with an export share of nearly 11 percent.

The origins
The Michelin Guide, which was originally conceived with the intention of encouraging motorists to travel, was born in 1900 in France from an idea of the brothers André and Édouard Michelin, founders of the tire company of the same name. To help the few thousand French motorists struggling with a journey that was often uncertain or even adventurous, the Michelin brothers created a booklet for the traveler, containing maps, procedures for changing a wheel, service stations and a list of addresses in which eat and stay overnight.
