Hang Seng Index Closes Slightly Higher on March 20

Xinhua News Agency, Hong Kong – On March 20, the Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong closed slightly higher, rising 13.59 points or 0.08% to finish at 16543.07 points. The total transaction volume on the main board for the day reached HK$85.343 billion.

The state-owned enterprise index also saw an increase, rising 23.78 points to close at 5803.99 points, a gain of 0.41%. The Hang Seng Technology Index followed suit, closing at 3551.42 points with a 0.65% increase.

Among the blue-chip stocks, Tencent Holdings had a notable increase of 1.33% to close at HK$288.8. Other major players such as Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, China Mobile, and HSBC Holdings also saw positive movements in their stock prices.

In terms of local Hong Kong stocks, Cheung Kong Holdings experienced a slight increase, while Sun Hung Kai Properties and Henderson Land faced minor declines in their stock prices.

Chinese financial stocks exhibited mixed performances, with Bank of China posting gains, while China Construction Bank and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China saw slight decreases.

Petroleum and petrochemical stocks also saw some movements, with Sinopec, PetroChina, and China National Offshore Oil all finishing the day with varying degrees of increases in their stock prices.

Overall, the Hang Seng Index closed on a slightly positive note, reflecting the mixed performances across different sectors of the market on March 20.
