Inail, 2021: accidents at work increase, but white deaths decrease

by admin

The reports of accidents at work submitted to Inail between January and June were 266,804 (+ 8.9% compared to the same period in 2020), 538 of which with a fatal outcome (-5.6%). The number of professional-related pathologies reported was on the rise, reaching 28,855 (+ 41.9%). The same Institute makes it known, noting that the monthly data are strongly influenced by the Coronavirus emergency.

In particular, the reports of accidents at work submitted to Inail by last June were almost 22 thousand more (+ 8.9%) compared to 244,896 in the first six months of 2020, a summary of a decrease in complaints observed in the quarter January-March (-10%) and an increase in the period April-June (+ 40%), in the comparison between the two years. The reports of fatal cases presented to the Institute in the same period were 538, or 32 less than the 570 registered in the first six months of 2020 (-5.6%).

The comparison between 2020 and 2021, “however,” requires caution – underlines the Institute – as the data of the deadly complaints of the monthly open data, more than those of the complaints as a whole, are provisional and strongly influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic , with the result of not counting a significant number of ‘late’ fatal reports of contagion, in particular relating to the month of March 2020 “.

Inail also notes that “the deaths caused by Covid-19 occur after a more or less long period of time has elapsed from the date of the infection”. That said, the data for the first half of this year show an increase only in ongoing cases, which went from 85 to 94 (+ 10.6%), while those occurring during work were 41 fewer (from 485 at 444, -8.5%). The complaints of occupational disease registered in the first six months of 2021 were 28,855, 8,518 more than in the same period of 2020 (+ 41.9%), summarizing a decrease of 26% in the January-February period and an increase in 114% in that of March-June, in the comparison between the two years. The pathologies reported therefore return to increase, still emphasizes Inail, after a 2020 strongly influenced by the pandemic with reports in constant decrease in comparison with previous years.
