He is a famous producer, among other things, for his chocolate bunny wrapped in gold paper. But the Swiss group Lindt & Sprüngli also seems to have its own title, listed on the Zurich Stock Exchange, and for real. The group’s registered share in fact dances around the record price of 100,000 francs (92,000 euros at the current exchange rate). This threshold was exceeded, up to 100,100 francs, on Monday 12 July and now the stock travels nearby, at 99,900 francs.

Some Swiss media indicate that this is now the second most expensive listed stock in the world, behind that of the Berkshire Hathaway of the famous American financier Warren Buffett, which is around 421 thousand dollars (about 354 thousand euros).

No splitting of the title

In this era, many listed companies have decided to split the value of their individual shares, with the clear aim of favoring the investment opportunities on their securities, even by investors who cannot mobilize large sums. But Lindt & Sprüngli continues to go against the grain. Ernst Tanner, chairman of the board of directors of the group, of which in the past he was chief executive officer for a long time, has reiterated several times that a title at such expensive levels has advantages, for example in his opinion prestige and exclusivity are good. both to action and to the group more generally.

A matter of opinion, but in the meantime we need to record the progress of the group’s action. Between 2003 and 2004 the stock was around 10 thousand francs, then a progress up to 43 thousand francs in 2007. The international financial crisis of 2008-2009 also brought down the golden stock of Lindt & Sprüngli, up to around 18 thousand francs.

In the last year + 21%

From then on there was a gradual rise which, despite fluctuations, brought the stock to the current level of 100,000 francs. Over the past year, the stock has risen by 21%. In 2020, the Lindt & Sprüngli Group generated sales of 4 billion francs (3.7 billion euros) and a profit of 302 million francs (277 million euros).
