The President of the Council Giorgia Meloni received the premier of the ad interim Libyan national unity government at Palazzo Chigi Abdul Hamid Dbeibah with a delegation of Libyan ministers (Foreign Affairs, Interior, Transport, Communication), for an intergovernmental summit focused on migrants and energy.

The Deputy Prime Ministers were also present for the Italian government, Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini, the Made in Italy Minister Adolfo Urso, the Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi. Also present was the CEO of ENI Claudio Descalzi who signed an agreement with his counterpart of the National Oil Corporation (NOC).

The Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, received today at Palazzo Chigi the Prime Minister of the Government of Libyan National Unity, Abdulhameed Mohamed Dabaiba and his delegation of ministers. The meeting was attended by the Vice Presidents of the Council of Ministers Antonio Tajani and Matteo Salvini, the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi and the Minister for Made in Italy, Adolfo Russo.
During the long and cordial meeting between the two, President Meloni underlined how the stabilization of Libya and its political framework is a priority for Italy, for national security and for energy diversification.
Among the themes at the center of the discussion, the economy, energy, infrastructures and the main sectors of cooperation between Italy and the Libya which remains a strategic economic partner for Italy.
The two leaders also discussed the importance of holding Libyan presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, also with the mediation of the United Nations and UN Representative Bathily. In this sense, Italy will continue to work to ensure greater unity of purpose of the international community to guarantee the success of the United Nations mediation.
President Meloni expressed his appreciation to the Prime Minister I had to also for the efforts made by the Libyan authorities in sea rescue operations and in the containment of irregular departures. However, the Prime Minister shared his concerns with the Libyan premier in view of the summer season. In this perspective, it is essential for Meloni to step up efforts to combat human trafficking. Italy remains determined to confirm its constant commitment to support the Libyan authorities, in the management of migration flows and in assisting local communities through the projects of the Migration Fund.
During the meeting, the long and solid cooperation between the two nations in the energy sector, both oil and gas, was also highlighted, which also represents an important contribution to the stabilization and growth of Libya. Thanks to the pipeline Green StreamIndeed, Italy and Libya share a fundamental tool for promoting the process of diversification of energy supply sources. In the light of these prospects, an agreement was signed today between the CEO of ENI, Claudio De Scalzi and the NOC (National Oil Corporation) on joint initiatives to reduce emissions.
During the meeting, a Declaration of Intent was also signed on the matter of strengthening cooperation on security matters by the Minister Piantedosi and its Libyan counterpart and, in addition to the aforementioned ENI agreement, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Telecom Sparkle and the Libyan Post and Telecommunications Authority with a view to the construction of a submarine data cable and finally an agreement on the construction of urban waste water treatment plants in Libya by the Termomeccanica company of La Spezia.
