Padel, in 2 years (including the pandemic) boom of members and new fields

by admin

The Fell tennis like more and more. In just 2 years, including the pandemic , the competitive members have gone from 7,000 in 2019 to 60,000 in 2021, while the fields have tripled from 1,000 2 years ago to over 3,000 this year. It is with these respectable numbers that will be held on 9 and 10 July in Poltu Quatu (Arzachena, Sassari) Lexus Padel VIP Cup, the final of the tournament which ended in the clubs of Italian cities on June 27, 2021 and which will see many VIPs (from Totti to Cabrini, from Ferrara to Panucci) compete against each other also to actively support We World Onlus , engaged for over 50 years in the protection of human rights. But let’s see in detail.

What is padel tennis

Unlike tennis which provides for the joke, the kick-off of the Padel match is done from below and is played (only) in double on a court divided into 2 by a net, but half the size of the tennis one. Smaller, lighter, full-plate racquets with holes are used. One of the rules that distinguishes this sport from tennis is that in which the walls delimiting the end of the court are part of the playing area; if the ball bounces off the walls it can be repelled with the racket.

Numbers increasingly on the rise

In Italy all Padel tournaments are regulated by the Fit (Italian Tennis Federation). In 2021 the members are over 60,000 (in 2014 they were only 300, while in 2019 they were 7,000) while there are over 500,000 practitioners (the age ranges from 10 to 75 years and 50% is represented by women). In Italy there are currently over 3,000 fields: in 2014 there were 10 while in 2019 there were 1,000. The exponential growth of this sport also makes the entire padel industry grow: construction of fields, installation of clubs, rackets, balls and the interest of all the most important broadcasters in the world also increases more and more.
Padel, which is played in 95 countries around the world with 51 national Federations affiliated with Fit, is also approaching the Olympic dream: in recent weeks it was officially included in the definitive program of the European Olympic Games in June 2023.
